Outdoor Life Leadership
Building Leaders, Strengthening Families
“In a world of screens and distractions, we reconnect youth and families to nature—and to each other.”
At Outdoor Life Leadership, we empower young people to develop critical life skills through outdoor adventures while bringing families closer together. Our programs teach youth how to navigate challenges, build confidence, and work as a team—tools they carry for a lifetime.
This past June 2024, our Nature's Family Event at Oak Hollow Campground showcased the power of nature to transform lives.
What Happened at Nature’s Family Event?
From June 20-23, 2024, we welcomed 6 families (36 people) to Oak Hollow Campground for a weekend of hands-on learning, family bonding, and unforgettable outdoor experiences.
For many, it was their first time stepping outside their comfort zones and into the natural world.
Together, youth and families learned essential survival skills and life lessons, including:
-
Shelter Building: Youth mastered the art of assembling and breaking down tents, learning independence and the importance of preparation.
-
Fishing for Success: Participants prepared their own fishing rods, learned to catch fish, and discovered the value of patience and persistence.
-
Bonfire Safety: Everyone learned to safely start, manage, and extinguish bonfires, a critical skill for outdoor safety and teamwork.
-
Swimming Skills: Youth overcame fears and built confidence while learning how to swim safely, a life-saving skill.
-
Outdoor Cooking: Families worked together to prepare meals over open fires, learning cooking safety, resourcefulness, and teamwork.
-
Limited Electricity Use: Participants learned how to effectively manage resources, using minimal power to emphasize the value of essentials.
-
Thriving Without Modern Comforts: Youth discovered how to navigate and enjoy the outdoors without reliance on modern conveniences, gaining resilience and problem-solving skills.

Volunteer with Nature's Family
Help Families Thrive Outdoors. Strengthen Community Connections.
Nature’s Family is more than a camping retreat—it’s a hands-on experience that builds survival skills, leadership, and stronger family bonds. Each year, we welcome families for a weekend of connection, learning, and outdoor adventure. Behind the scenes, it takes a dedicated volunteer team to make it happen. That’s where you come in.
When you join our volunteer team, you don’t just give your time—you help create an unforgettable experience for 13 families (about 78 people) in one incredible weekend. Every role matters, and every effort counts toward a smooth, impactful event.
Volunteer Roles
Event Planning Coordinator
Keep our event running like clockwork. You’ll manage the planning calendar, coordinate task lists, and ensure deadlines are met. You’ll run team meetings, track progress, and help with post-event reporting. If you thrive on organization and keeping projects moving, this role is for you.
Sponsorship & Fundraising Lead
Fuel the mission by securing financial and in-kind support. You’ll identify potential sponsors, build relationships with donors, and coordinate fundraising campaigns that help cover event costs. If you enjoy outreach, networking, and making a tangible impact, this is a key role.
Marketing & Communications Lead
Get the word out and bring the event to life. You’ll create engaging content, manage our social media presence, coordinate with media outlets, and design graphics and flyers that inspire participation. If you’re creative and love storytelling, this is your arena.
Volunteer Recruitment & Support Lead
Bring the right people to the team and help them succeed. You’ll manage volunteer outreach, onboarding, scheduling, and communications. This role ensures every volunteer is informed, prepared, and supported throughout the event.
Participant Outreach & Registration Support
Be the friendly first point of contact for families. You’ll help recruit participants, manage registrations, send reminders, and answer questions before the event. If you’re warm, detail-oriented, and great with people, this role makes a big difference in every family’s experience.
